چکیده

In the present study, dogs were pretreated with intravenous digoxin, 0.0125 mg/kg/day, for 6 to 7 consecutive days to achieve clinically relevant serum concentrations; untreated animals were used as control subjects. After pretreatment, nine digoxin-pretreated dogs and nine control dogs were anesthetized and subjected to a 60-minute occlusion of the left circumflex coronary artery, followed by 6 hours of reperfusion. Anatomic myocardial infarct size, expressed as a percentage of the areas at risk of infarction and as a percentage of the total left ventricle were: 20.2 +/- 3.3% control vs 35.4 +/- 6.2% digoxin-pretreated (p less than 0.05) and 8.6 +/- 1.3% control vs 14.7 +/- 2.5% digoxin-pretreated (p less than 0.05), respectively (2.04 +/- 0.37 ng/ml serum digoxin). Regional myocardial blood flow in the nonischemic and ischemic zones tended to be lower in digoxin-pretreated than in control animals at baseline testing and were significantly reduced in the anterior subendocardial sites of digoxin-pretreated dogs during ischemia and reperfusion. These data suggest that an exacerbation or enhancement of myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury may occur in the presence of clinically observable serum digoxin concentrations.

Acute effect of burn trauma to small skin areas on myocardial ischemia reperfusion

Introduction: It has been reported that traumas such as transverse abdominal incision before myocardial ischemia result in a significantly decreased infarct size. This phenomenon is named remote preconditioning of trauma. Since small skin burn is one of most common traumas, the effect of this injury on ischemia-induced arrhythmias and infarct size was investigated in a rat model of ischemia-...

Effects of pretreatment with non hypotensive dose of ramiprilat and losartan on myocardial ischemia-reperfusion induced arrhythmias and infarct size in rats

Introduction: Inhibition of renin angiotensin system represents an important approach in the management of cardiovascular diseases. The aim of this study was to explore the effects of pretreatment with non-hypotensive dose of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor, ramiprilat and angiotensin type 1 (AT1) receptor blocker, losartan on myocardial infarct size and arrhythmias in a rat mo...

Therapeutic effects of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D and losartan co-administration on myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats

Introduction: Studies support the idea that low levels of vitamin D are associated with a higher risk of heart disease. Losartan has also been prescribed as a drug commonly used for treating hypertension. The aim of the current study was to investigate the effects of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D in combination with a non-hypotensive dose of losartan on myocardial infarct size, reperfusion-induced...

The cardioprotective effect of vanillic acid on hemodynamic parameters, malondialdehyde, and infarct size in ischemia-reperfusion isolated rat heart exposed to PM10

Objective(s): Particulate matter (PM) exposure can promote cardiac ischemia and myocardial damage. The effects of PM10 on hemodynamic parameters, lipid peroxidation, and infarct size induced by ischemia-reperfusion injury and the protective effects of vanillic acid (VA) in isolated rat heart were investigated. Materials and Methods: Eighty male Wistar rats (250–300 g) were divided into 8 groups...

Effects of normobaric hyperoxia pretreatment on ischemia-reperfusion injury in regional ischemia model of isolated rat heart

Abstract Introduction: Resent studies have been shown beneficial effects of hyperoxia pretreatment against ischemia-reperfusion injury in different organs. The aim of the present study was to investigate early and late effects of normobaric hyperoxia (≥95% O2) pretreatment on ischemia-reperfusion injuries in isolated rat hearts. Methods: Following 60 and 180 minutes of hyperoxia, rat hearts w...
